4 Reasons the Dodgers Pitchers will help win the World Series in 2019
- Clayton Kershaw– Kershaw is going to be one of the top 3-4 pitchers ever to play the game of baseball. The last 2 seasons have been tough on him because as he has gotten older, he has lost some of the velocity on his fastball that made him so great years before. So, this year has been interesting, and his starts have been watched closely to see if he can regain some of that velocity or if he will finally unleash the changeup he is working to perfect. Neither of those things has happened. His fastball is coming in at an average speed of 90-91 mph and he has not used a change up yet either. He has moved to throwing a lot more sliders and curveballs witch he refined during the offseason since he knew he would be relying on them heavily. Kershaw has had a great year with a 3 ERA and has pitched at least till the 6 inning every game which is huge for the bullpen. He is great at getting out of pressure situations but has had a problem with missing his spots here and there and giving up homeruns. He may not be what he used to be but is still one of the best in the game today, and not just by reputation but by his statistics and performance.
- Hyun-Jin Ryu– Ryu has been the best pitcher in baseball this year and has down it with his 5 pitches he throws. He like Kershaw doesn’t throw very hard but he uses his off-speed pitches to fool and keep hitters off balance while hitting. Ryu has a 1.78 ERA best in baseball and only has one game this season where he gave up more than 2 runs.
- Walker Buehler– Buehler started the season slow after a great year last year. He has a great record of 8-1 but his ERA is almost at 3.5. He has an electric fast fastball and great slider curve and change up, but location has been his problem so far. When Buehler can locate his off-speed pitches, he is unhittable but that has been his issue is locating the curve, slider and change up. Other teams can recognize that he can’t throw them for strikes and then they will just go up waiting for a fastball and do damage when they hit it. The good thing is he has pitched deep into games and has been healthy there is a lot of time left for his command to sharpen up with his off-speed pitches before the postseason.
- Julio Urias– Julio is the Dodgers long lost secret that most teams are considering a threat when they should. Julio was the signed at 16 from Mexico and a Dodger top prospect a few years ago. He got hurt and had shoulder surgery and came back for the postseason last year and pitched great. This year the Dodgers are being careful with his workload, so he has mostly pitched out of the bullpen this season. The few starts he has had have been great. And there are rumors he will be coming back to the rotation closer to the end of the year which would be great. He has been a versatile piece being able to start and pitch out of the bullpen.
